First of all, appearance. As obvious as it may seem to some, not everyone dresses appropriately for a job interview. Your idea of appropriate dress may often come into conflict with what is expected by the hiring authority — maybe not. Please remember that the hiring decision maker, like most of us, wants respect. They don’t necessarily want to see your sexiest garb, or your hippest attire, or your most faddish display. Mostly, they want to see you dress nicely, usually in a suit — yes, even for hourly wage jobs.

The next most important job interview success tip is your demeanor, your personality. Smile. Be friendly, but not superficially pleasing. Plan to engage the job interviewer as much as they engage you. Strive to remain composed throughout the interview. Most interviewers will attempt to put the applicant at ease, in order to elicit “off the cuff” remarks and spontaneous answers that reveal aspects about one’s self that may not otherwise be offered. If you enter into a job interview with the intention to retain a somewhat detached, friendly, but professional attitude, you will be at ease, but you will also maintain your sense of decorum and objectivity. That sort of an approach helps create in the mind of the interviewer the belief that you have an aire of confidence and control, a friendly, but results oriented personality — because it will be true. But that sort of demeanor doesn’t happen on its own. You must prepare by practicing those attributes prior to your job interview. And it’s easy to practice those skills.

Without announcing your intention, enter into just such a somewhat detached, but friendly and still engaging attitude when you are visiting with family or friends, or if you meet someone new. You will soon see that such a professional demeanor is an easy persona to turn on or off. And don’t feel like you are portraying a fake part of yourself, a faux-you. You don’t go out in public in your underwear — or, at least most of us don’t. In that same way, job interviewers want to see the best part of your personalities, not the full spectrum of your emotions.

Lastly, prepare in advance for the type of questions you expect to have to address in a job interview. Each vocation will have its own set of related job questions, so it is difficult to address in this article all the possible questions that may arise. Suffice it to say that if you make a list of the primary issues or other problems that are routinely addressed in the sort of job you will interview for, then create a specific list of solution strategies that answer those problems with practical remedies — and have an example from your experience about how each remedy was implemented — then you will move far ahead in your efforts to express yourself as solutions oriented job applicant.

The answers to the questions asked in the interview should be given with full confidence. The interviewers, in addition to the answers, do normally pay attention to the way of answering. Therefore, it is important that your answers should reflect your level of confidence. The answers should be simple and short.

While answering the questions, make sure that the answers given are short. However, though short, they should be complete in itself. They should be such that the interviewer should be completely satisfied with it. However, if your answer does not satisfy the interviewer, try to explain to him only until he is on that question. Most of the times, if the interviewer is not satisfied with the answer he may ask another question. If this happens, concentrate on the new question. 

Some questions are very common and they are always asked in the interview. For these questions, it is better if you are well prepared. Examples of such questions are like, what are your skills, etc. However, even if you prepare the answer in advance, the language should be simple and causal. It should seem like your answer is just what came to your mind after the interviewer asked the question.  The interviewers test the aspirants for their quick thinking and that too under pressure. This is depicted from the answers that you give to the interviewers during the interview. Therefore, giving the interviewer an impression as if, you are answering instantaneously and at the movement, is beneficial.

The interviewer may ask questions about the previous job and colleagues of that company. While answering such questions, always be positive. Never complain or mumble about the previous company and the related issues as these questions are asked for testing your relations with the colleagues of that company. The answers to job interview questions like to find out your comfort level to work for this company require some knowledge about the company. All your answers should be supported by a suitable data.

One of the crucial question asked in an interview is regarding the salary expectations. You should never try to answer this question directly. You should say that it would depend upon the job responsibilities. Alternatively, you can put the ball in his court asking the interviewer the approximate range offered for that position.

If you are an experienced person in that field you are applying for then the interviewer may ask about the skills you possess and various cases wherein your skills were put to use.. For this question, you should always be prepared with example to which you can refer.

An interviewer prepares a set of interview questions which he asks to all applicants. He will then compare the answers given him and gauge from here who the most qualified applicant is. It is the human resource department who usually prepares these questions. and they have set a standard set of answers also to measure the qualifications of every applicant.

Interview questions vary depending on the company’s preference and needs. There are no standards or patterns in these types of questions. Basically there are different types of interview questions which job applicants may encounter during interviews. These types of interview questions are have their specific objectives pertaining to the different qualities of the job applicant.

What are your strategies?” In this type of question, the interviewer may ask the applicant on his or her strength and weaknesses.

Dumb Questions
Some interviewers use dumb questions just to test the applicant’s ability to think instantly. This type of question does not have any right or wrong answers. Some of the common questions used are “What is the color which represents your personality?” “If you were given a chance, what animal do you like to be, and why?”

5 Job Interview Questions We Love To Hate

Inevitably in any job search you will be asked many questions. Some are better than others and some are despised more than others. If you have prepared yourself properly for your interview you will better navigate some of the tougher questions you will face. Below is a list of five of the most hated job interview questions.

5. Are you a team player?

What I think:

Not particularly. I tend to bully and isolate anyone who doesn’t agree with me. I like to be feared rather than be respected, it lasts longer.

What you should probably say:
The interviewer is looking for an answer that shows how well you work with your coworkers. You should use an example of how you have performed well completing tasks as a member of a team project at work, team leader, or how you helped solve some issue that you were not directly assigned to complete. No employer wants to hire an employee with TNMJ (That’s Not My Job) syndrome.

4. Have you ever had a conflict with a boss or superior? How did you handle it?

What I think:

Yes, I have. I called in sick to come to this interview.

What you should probably say:

This one is a little tricky but you can still navigate this mine field. If you answer no, the interviewer will automatically assume that your not being truthful. If you answer yes, depending on the circumstances you may be viewed as a problem employee. What you should illustrate here is some minor disagreement (such as working late)between yourself and your boss and what solution (coming in early) you came up with. I would probably stay away from any incidents that involved formal HR complaints or lawsuits.

3. Do you work well under pressure?

What I think:

Yes, I’m actually guaranteed up to 200psi.

What you should probably say:

Here the interviewer wants to hear what you consider being under pressure at work and what steps you took to still deliver results. Do you often work under short notice time sensitive deadlines? Are you calm and focused? Or do you stress out and hinder positive results? Most employers who ask this in the interview do so because they usually work under tight deadlines and need employees who will not crack under pressure.

2. If I were to ask your friends or former co-workers to describe you, what
would they say?

What I think:

They would say please hire me so I can stop asking them for loans I can’t repay.

What you should probably say:

Another tricky one. Under no circumstances do I want my friends having any input on my career advancement potential. Most of my friends I met when I was in college and trust me I would have been pickier if I knew my career was riding on those choices. So you should focus on your coworkers and the ways you have helped them out of a jam in the past. Your answer should display your willingness to go the extra mile and put in effort that is not outlined in your job description.

1. What is your greatest weakness?

What I think:
Weakness? Oh yeah. Raspberry filled Krispy Kreme doughnuts are like kryptonite to me.

What you should probably say:

Under no circumstances should you make the all too common error of framing a strength as a weakness (i.e. I’m a workaholic or stickler for details to a fault.). There are enough self absorbed narcissists in the world and employers are not trying to add another to their payrolls. What the employer wants with this question is to hear a real work related weakness. It shows that you are not another ‘flawless’ egomaniac. So you state a real weakness such as time management but also provide the steps you take to keep that from affecting your performance like keeping a detailed scheduled on your smartphone.

Although I would love to see how an interviewer would respond to how I think the questions should be answered, it is probably better if you prepare the more appropriate suggestions for your interview. The job market is too competitive to just casually show up for an interview and think you will get the job offer. Remember that if an employer calls you in for an interview it is because they are interested in hiring you. The purpose of the interview is to screen out candidates that are not a good fit for the company. If you put in the proper preparation you will be evaluating job offers and not wondering why you are not getting called back.

You know the drill for medical sales job interviews:  research, prepare, and be ready for the toughest interview questions.
