The Power of Purpose
Recently I went to a presentation given by Paul Dunn. He is the Chairman of Buy1Give1.com an amazing and powerful concept that creates a habit out of giving to social causes worldwide. To make the world a better place for everyone. Now you may be wondering what this has to do with interview techniques and tips. Well I listened to his presentation with great interest as I saw a connection in his message of giving and purpose, to that of going for an interview. When one goes for an interview what makes that person stand out from the rest is a clarity of their purpose. What I mean by this is not a clarity of purpose to get the job that is too narrow a purpose, but an understanding in yourself of the WHY you want the job. In other words what is your purpose? Why are you here going for this job?
Have a look at a Tedx talk given By Paul Dunn which just might give you an insight to what I saw.
In this talk he is describing the creation of the Buy1 Give1 company.
The presentation I saw had similar content to this recorded one. Afterwards I chatted to Paul and asked if he would be willing to be interviewed for this website. He was surprised to be asked to be interviewed about interviews but he willingly agreed and now I have 30 minutes of his wisdom and very useful tips on interviews. I will be letting you know very soon how you can get to hear this interview. In particular how you create the WOW when in an interview.
If you are interested in knowing more about Paul Dunn and his achievements. Have a look at his exceptional book The Firm of the Future: A Guide for Accountants, Lawyers, and Other Professional Services which he co-authored with Ronald J Barker. Particularly visit the sample ‘look inside’ the book pages because there is so much value in that alone. Although it is not directly relevant to Interview techniques and tips it does I believe have a relevance to how you present yourself. After all many of you will be wanting to do well in your new job and possibly be a leader in a Firm of the Future.
